I’ll never forget wearing a bathing suit back when I only had two kids- I was flashing my daisy tattoo on my back without realizing it, and i overheard a lifeguard say, “Why do so many of the moms here, like, have tattoos?” and her lithe barely 20 friend replied, “Like, WHAT is up with that?”
I turned and looked at their decorated ankles and tramp stamps and laughed to myself- they were either looking forward to some serious laser removal in a few years, or acceptance that they could be moms and have tattoos- an acceptance of a juxtaposition.
Like me and bathing suits. I’ve come to accept that I like the 10% rule of dress- for each decade, you cover up 10% more of your body. It’s liberated my relationship with bathing suits. Now I make choices that I’m pretty sure will not sport a wedge no matter what, and will never allow a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
As part of Lands End Swimsuit Confidence week, I’m sharing some pics of me in my Lands End Sweetheart Swim Dress- It’s my standby. And You know if you can wear it on a swing and it stays put, you can wear it anywhere.:)
