The flowers are blooming, the spring is springing, and I’m starting to see bunnies all over the place. One of my faves is EB. the sweet but sassy fellow who stars in HOP, a movie that on the surface is about candy and Easter. But it also has themes about going your own way, letting go as a parent, and growing up and taking responsibility for your life.
I took my five and seven year old to see it, and it was refreshingly free of most scatological humour and people using language that makes me cringe…(you know, like “Stupid” and “Shut Up” If they can’t say it at home, I try to keep it out of their entertainment.) The only real bodily function joke was that EB poops jellybeans- and that, I can stand.
It’s a nice way to lead in the fresh season whether your family celebrates the actual Easter Holiday or not, and the animation is dazzling. For a movie that parents can enjoy, but doesn’t aim too squarely at them miss the actual KID market, I highly recommend HOP. And Bonus: It has the BEST soundtrack I’ve heard on any movie in a while. Classic Hole, Green Day, old school awesome.
