“Summer of Smiles”- Win a $50 1-800-Flowers Giftcard

If there’s one thing that’s always guaranteed to make me smile, it’s an assortment of Gerbera daisies. Something about their wild zany colors and the way they scream “Excitement!!!’ just energizes me. In fact, if I’m on a deadline, I go buy some at the store.

(Hey, we all have our own procrastination rituals.:)

It makes sense that I love flowers, since my daughter’s middle name is Marigold and my only tattoo is of a daisy. I love taking my six year old girl to the Amish market on Saturday mornings and deliberating in front of the stacks of fresh picked flowers. We start with a double dutch bouquet and then add on from there, pointing to lilies and daisies until our quota of over the top ridiculousness has been met. Then she tries to carry them out of the store, while straining to see over the top.

I also make it a point to send flowers when people aren’t expecting them. Birthdays and anniversaries, we all have our eyes open for surprises and are ready for them. I like to do it on the weird days- a friend has won an award, or we finished a project a long time in the making. Or, I just feel like someone could really use them right now.

As part of 1-800- FLOWERS “Summer of Smiles”, I have the chance to share a $50 gift card with you to make someone’s day. (And sure, it can be your own!:)

Just leave a comment on this post telling me about your most memorable time receiving flowers. I’ll draw a winner via Random.org on Monday, August 16, and e-mail them.

Disclosure: I received a gift card to share flowers with someone as well.

Well, as you know, my husband is from Texas. When we were dating, the first time he sent flowers was for no reason at all. They were yellow roses, natch. Three or four dozen of them. They were lovely...:)

Mmmm....I think it would have to be the time my husband sent me roses after our very first date. They were yellow roses and were BEAUTIFUL! He was a keeper from that point on!

Yes, my lovely daughter, I remember being the ecstatic recipient of a lovely bouquet that you and E picked out at the Dutch Market. It lives on in many photos. I am happy to have another chance to remember it and to thank you. Much love. Momma

Like you, I love sending flowers to friends/family when they aren't expecting them. Such a great rush when you know you've made someone's day. Hmmm, so I've received many bouquets this year for various reasons, but if I had to choose a specific favorite, it might be the ones I got just a couple months ago from one of my bosses. He was leaving the company, moving on to try something new after working together for 7.5 years. I was running down to the garage to give him a couple of boxes he forgot and he pulled out the biggest, prettiest bouquet of flowers I'd ever seen with a small gift and a note thanking me for all my years of work and assistance. I really wasn't expecting it. I'm holding back tears just thinking about it. Sometimes you're just lucky to work with awesome people. .-= Bellacantare´s last blog ..Three Thoughts =-.

I was having company coming for Christmas one year and was very stressed about their entire family coming to spend the holidays at our house. I was cleaning furiously and trying to figure out what to put on my table for decoration when I received a beautiful arrangement of poinsettias from that family. It made my dining room table lovely!
