It’s been a heck of a year since I first heard Diane Birch’s debut album, “Bible Belt”. At SXSW last year, I had the privilege of pulling together a show at the Driskill for Diane to play acapella with her band- it was a true highlight for me.
This year, I split before music began, but I did catch up with Steve Greenberg on our Twitter and Music Panel- he’s one of the producers on Bible Belt, and a generally amazing music guy.
During the panel, he showed us Diane’s new video for Valentino, which had just gone live that day. Valentino’s one of my fave tracks on Bible Belt, kind of boppy yet retro, with the unusual topic of Diane bidding adieu to her childhood imaginary friend, Valentino. I dare you to listen and try to get it out of your head- it gets in there.
So this video was shot all in one take, although it was shot 56 times prior to get that one.:) Imagine how many times we change clothes to get ready for one party, and multiply by gazillion- that was Diane’s day. I’m impressed.
Let me know what you think, and what other singer/songwriter girls do I need to be checking out right now?
