Oscars 2010 Red Carpet Adventure
March 8, 2010
Wow. Still in a bit of shock to be sitting in a hotel room in Los Angeles, fresh from twelve hours at the 2010 Red Carpet Kodak Bleachers. It was an experience I never expected, and will never forget.
Most of all, it was an homage to art- I’ll admit, I’ve often thought of the Oscars and the Red Carpet as a day for the pretty folk to preen for the cameras.
But the beauty of seeing it live was seeing all of the people who don’t make it on the TV- but who make the magic happen. the sound editors, the costume designers, the directors. The ones whom, when they walk down the red carpet, a hush falls over the crowd, as they try to figure out if they’re anyone to cheer for. But if their face isn’t well known, the assumption is that they’re not a star. (UNLESS you’re in Bleacher Section B, where we cheered ourselves hoarse for the “nobodies”- much to their bemusement and befuddlement.)
A striking woman who stood ten feet from me for a long while almost got her picture taken due to her exquisite sequinned hat. But in the end, I didn’t, as I wasn’t sure of her name and didn’t want to just post a random picture. (we’re over that now, as you’ll soon see.)
Well. Of course, she won best Constume design for Young Victoria- AND it was her third Oscar in that category. It reminded me that everyone is somebody- I just may not know who yet.
And even if she DIDN’T win an Oscar, she’s still picture-worthy- we all are.
I offer a HUGE thanks to Kodak for extending this opportunity to the eleven bloggers who attended- I really enjoyed seeing a different side of an industry I cherish.
And oh, I cried at Sandra Bullock’s acceptance speech. BEST LINE EVER: “Thank you for not letting me ride in cars with boys till I was eighteen, cause I would have done everything you said I would.” I thought I would have a conniption. What a wonderful and stalwart woman.
And, seeing a woman win best director for the first time was pretty amazing- overall, a stellar day.
But now it’s insanely early in the morning, and my east Coast self is about to collapse. I leave you with a slideshow, and my gratitude for being on this crazy ride with me.
xoxo, Lindsay

Jenny!!!! We wound up all being separated in different sections- which was kinda good for different picture angles. I was in the section Riiiiight when they got out of the limos, so great for seeing thoe human moments that i wanted- but not great for TV, as there were no cams at that end. Was OK though.:)

That love of the behind-the-scenes people is what led me to almost take a job at a record label. I really wanted to be one of them.

Hey, you. I’ve been wanting to check these out for awhile. Looks like you had so much fun. And I felt your pain on the jetlag thing, which I am about to re-experience when I visit your coast for ASJA in a few weeks. Big hug to ya!
