Mommy Like a Rock Star, Part 9: What Rocks?
February 1, 2010
I’m gonna tell you a little secret that I bet you already know.
Nothing is ever perfect.
No matter how hard you try or how matter how much the universe may align. nothing will ever be EXACTLY all the way right.
But there are perfect moments in life, and I believe that the more we train ourselves to recognize and acknowledge them, the more satisfied we’ll be.
I try to just take a step back every now and again and be awed by the very fact that we exist.
I heard Shawn Colvin’s “Kill the Messenger” today, and it reminded me.
“Sometimes the beauty of life hits like lightning, washing everything clear- and those glimmers of doubt flicker, fade out, and disappear-”
Loved it.:) Here’s what I’m so grateful for at this moment in my life-
Parents and in-laws who are healthy and close and so, so loving to my family. They love us as people and as family, and that is a rare gift.
Three Healthy Children who are growing and learning and trying so very hard to be the best little people they can be. Every day they learn so much.
My husband, my heart.
Friends and colleagues who are so generous and giving, and create a net and a community that I value more than I can say.
Work that’s satisfying to both of us.
I’m extremely aware right now of the delicacy and beauty of this balance. I’m so lucky to be healthy and cared for by our wonderful parents, while able to care for our precious children.
It just hit me like a ton of bricks today that this moment, February at 35, is one of my favorite times of my life, and I’m so grateful to the universe for creating this balance where I can be both nurtured and caretaker.
I feel a lil funny saying it out loud, like I should be like the old Polish proverbs where you talk about the ugly baby so the spirits don’t want to steal your pretty one. But I had to just say- Thank you, world.
How bout you? What ROCKS???

What Rocks for me is my supportive parents, especially in the realm of being a single mom who works, i know i never have to turn down work.
That they are healthy!
My crazy fun kids who are so flexible and cool despite some of the challenges we have had.
My ex husband who is a great dad and ex husband.
That his wife is beating cancer.
my best friends, who are my greatest cheerleaders, i don’t know what i would do without their confidence in me. they make me feel like a rock star.

Work. Work is totally rocking right now. Kids, too. I love this age. I’ve loved every age – isn’t it great how we keep trading up? I know there’s an ebb and flow of awesome ageness, but right now, it’ working.
