Chillin on Chincoteague Island

This week, I’m on Chincoteague Island with my little nuclear family, my parents, and my in-laws. We go on vacation together every August, E calls it “the time we all live in the same house.” As opposed to the rest of the time, when we all live 5 minutes away from each other.

But it is really fun to have a time when we’re all under the same roof, with very little to do besides shake the sand out of things and make sure we all get fed periodically.

We’ve been coming to the island for 6 years now, and one of my favorite things about it is the cool shops with objects that are far too easy for me to love and want to take home. But I will say that the ones that have made it back to my house have been cherished year round. Here are a few things that’ve caught my eye this round, all from the Main Street Coffee Shop:

Not too much else going on, in shock from the fact that school starts next week. I may be in denial about that. What are y’all doing for last summer hurrahs?

Being that my husband is from D.C. and I'm from Baltimore, we just got back from a not so dissimilar vacation at a beach right near you! Aside from that? The rest of my summer entails Kindergarten preparation, 10 days w/ both boys out of camp, and neuroses...we did see a pretty amazing show Saturday night, but alas, I think aside from the resurrection of Hendrix, it was my last hurrah in the floor seats - enjoy your vacation!

Well, NOW I'm bemoaning the fact that I'm not on vacation on some island somewhere, shaking out sand and scoping out coffee shops - GOSH! [/Nappy D]

(Although in all fairness, we live two blocks from the beach and frequently have sand in things year-round. Hmmm. Perhaps I should be coveting a Mountain Getaway...?)

My family and my parents and siblings and their families always used to all stay together on a beach house in San Diego every year. This is the first summer we didn't do it (up yours, economy) and I'm feeling the withdrawals.

Such fun beach stuff you found. :)

Girl, our summer is already over. My kids had to head back to school on the 10th of this month. I do hope to take my sons back for another trip to Six Flags before the park closes for the year in October. Otherwise? I just want to replace our grill and have an outdoor dinner before it gets too cool!

Oh, this was my version of fantasy island as a horse-loving girl who devoured Marguerite Henry's books. We've taken several trips along with my parents and my brother's family and they are always a blast. But parents and in-laws under one roof? You are brave!
