The Cancer Free Post
February 15, 2009
This is one of those things you hope to get to write, but when you’re in the middle of all the doctors and the thinking and the worrying you can’t quite see your way clear to how it will happen.
But it did. Just as suddenly as it began, it ended. Oh, I’m not naive, I know there will be scans and tests and heightened concern for my mom and MIL for years to come, but right now: Cancer Free.
My mom’s pathology from her mastectomy came back all clear, and my MIL’s scans after her chemo came back clear. She’ll go back every few months for more, and may go on a maintenance Taxol treatment (1 per month) but right Now?
Cancer Free.
Can you tell I really, really like the way that sounds? I just want to cherish it for a little minute, and not think about all the things that may happen. I’m just going to think about the ones that have so far, and how glad I am about how they’ve turned out.
Thank you for being here, for leaving comments, for cheering me up when my Facebook status was about my mom’s surgery. It’s meant more than I can explain, and it’s a gift.
Here’s to you…and moms.:) For many years to come.
Love, Lindsay

Oh, Lindsay. That is the best two-word phrase in the English language. So glad you and your moms get to use it.

Wow – you know I just decided to pop over again after seeing you on twittermoms and I’m so glad I did. It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate this news with you and your mom(s).
Congrats! I know that feeling of having someone very close to me be diagnosed with cancer and waking up every morning after that feeling like someone punched me in the stomach because “IT” is now in my life. I also know the relieve when they finally say, “Cancer Free” and being afraid to believe it, and enjoy it. Well, enjoy it!

Thank you guys so, so much for celebrating with me. Fruitlady wore my Mom’s and MILs name on her shirt when she walked for the Cure in San Francisco. (My MIL was a 15 year breast cancer survivor before the ovarian cancer hit, and my mom was in the thick of it.) The sense of community and love that I found through my blog friends has been so inspiring. Much love to you.
