Mmmmmmmm…Fleet Foxes.

Date October 6, 2008

Two weekends ago was the lovely Austin City Limits Festival. I was dying to go, because A. I love festivals. B. I think I would like Austin. C. I have cool innerwebs friends there whom I would love to see in real life (like Jenny who made this site!) and, last but not least, D. THE MUSIC.

Oh, the music. Just band after band of every imaginable stripe, different stages, the energy of 65,000 people a day. But alas, it was not practical this year, as the kids are just getting in their school swing, and Daddy’s away. So I got my fix through the internet. I was obsessed enough that I followed ACL on Twitter, in order to get updates on who was playing when and get pictures as they were posted. I watched video of David Byrne- man can still bring it!

And this weekend, as I was cruising the burbs in the minivan, going from Pumpkin Patch to Oktoberfest, I realized they were playing it on XMU! Whole sets of selected artists…it was amazing, I felt like I was there. Kind of.

I listened to the whole set of a gorgeous band, Fleet Foxes, from Seattle. They’re like nothing I’ve ever heard before, a kind of Baroque harmonic. I couldn’t believe it was live, the sound was so amazing. But isn’t that the joy of live music? The surprise of what can be created.

So, with no further ado, I bring you: Fleet Foxes!

Not exactly my cup of tea musically (the sound reminds me of ‘freedom rock’), but things often grow on me after a while, so I’d really have to reserve judgment. However, I love their claymation-esque video!

I have always wanted to go to that festive. Just not enough to go to Texas on purpose.
