Hello Darlings. As you may remember, I’m on vacation this week (code: if I so much as look at the internet while having “Family Time”, I will get death glares from Hubs.)
So some awesome ladies are stepping in for me. First up...Momma’s Tantrum! Later this week, Susan from Trout Towers will stop by, as well as Devilish Southern Belle. They are all wonderful, and hilarious, and I’m excited to hear what they have to say. I’ll be popping in to comment when I can sneak my laptop onto the deck.
Without further ado, I bring you Momma.
xoxo,
L
Hey you guys! I am guest posting for the lovely Rock and Roll Mama today When she asked me to do it she said,”I see that you are a George Michael fan, which leads me to believe you are a woman of strong and good musical tastes.” Which immediately made me fall in love with her, and I knew that we would be Best Friends Forever even if we do live THOUSANDS of miles apart. If only because of our love of GEORGE!
She also asked me to talk about how my musical tastes have changed since I became a mom 4 years ago. In all honesty, my taste hasn’t changed that much, but the quantity of what I get to listen to has. I now have a tiny dictator who tells me what is and isn’t okay to listen to, as well as a young Tipper Gore to censor all of my good Snoop Dogg CD’S (okay, they are MP whatever’s now.)
Before I was a mom I love GEORGE just as much, I will always be his biggest fan, I also loved to boom in my blue mustang with the bass shaking, and the music thumping. Usher, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Lisa Stansfield, Rick Astley (the guy that everyone ‘Rick Rolls’ you with on You Tube) white boy can sing! I love it all – well except Techno, death metal, and country bothers me, but only because it makes me really sad.
Now, I still listen to all of that music. I even enjoy getting down to The Laurie Berkner Band, Hot Peas and Butter (moms these guys are cute, and can sing), and They Might Be Giants now sing the theme songs to a LOT of kids cartoons! Mr. Tantrum has even gotten me to like Pink Floyd a tiny bit, even if it still just puts me straight to sleep.
I still have to be careful about my musical choices. I realized that when the neighbor kids were singing ‘The Thong Song’ the other day. They are 5 and 9, and that was bothersome. (I am not bothered when Bacon sings ‘Rehab’ though by Amy Winehouse. Maybe I need some Rehab!) Hearing those words come out of little people is disconcerting, and the worry that Bacon could be singing the chorus of ‘F&*K Me Pumps’ at preschool come fall, is overwhelming.
So maybe my tastes don’t need so much to change, as they need to be quieted while there are little ears around. Much like my potty mouth. I should probably just stick with GEORGE and Jamie Cullum. Neither of them swear in song, and both sing like there is no tomorrow!
