Metallica to Bloggers: We’re shy!

So Metallica is once again taking on the internet, albeit in a smaller scale then their Napster escapade. Nate Anderson at Ars Technica reports that Metallica gave mixes of their new album to several bloggers, then got riled up when reviews were posted, saying the music wasn’t quite ready for prime-time. Hmmmm. I don’t know, Metallica. Sounds like a public domain issue to me.

I still contend that “One” is a masterpiece. :) Man, it was PERFECT for 9th grade.

One is a joke, as is post-and justice for all metallica. The Grateful Dead made billions from touring and albums despite the heavy and well-known bootlegging going on. Yet metallica takes issue with declining record sales and attributes it to napster (then creates this latest boneheaded faux paux). Here's an idea, maybe it's not napster bootlegging that kille dyour record sales, maybe it's the fact that you became mainstream businessmen who play mediocre quasi-metal. Shit, there I go using critical reasoning and logical thought structure to investigate the oh-so obvious cause and effect of their downfall.

I will agree with you that later efforts (St. Anger, anyone?) are lacking. But ONE???Come on! Maybe it's because I'm a girl, so I prefer Metallica's girlier efforts. Will also agree that the DL of music can actually help a band's sales, and that a certain openness of platform is beneficial, especially for mid-level bands. For a band the size of Metallica to stick it's finger in the dike of the internet is just asking to get poured on. Ay yi, my metaphors.

Metallica apologise, on behalf of their management, for killing early reviews!http://drownedinsound.com/articles/3461200 http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=600942
