Sara B

Date May 25, 2008

So by now, you’ve probably heard Sara Bareilles…at least, if you’ve turned on your radio in the last three months. You may not know her name, but if you’ve heard the whole “I’m not gonna WRITE you a love song…cause you assssskkkked for it…” thing, you’ve heard her. And maybe her song got stuck in your head for a day or six.

I had the good fortune to see her at the 9:30 club a few weeks ago (lay off! I was taking my babysitter! OK,you got me… I like her.) Taking two 15 year olds to a concert made me feel very, very old. I actually asked them if they needed to use the bathroom before we left to go home. (Sorry M!)

Her pipes knocked me flat. I could not believe my ears. That girl can sing. So I bought her CD, and have listened to it pretty much non-stop ever since. Sometimes, I delude myself into thinking I can hit her notes, but Baby W stops my short. “No no! NOOOOO!” He yells from the backseat, hands over ears. Total ego boost.

But it was pretty cool, as it was her first headlining tour. Nothing like having your debut record released at number one, then selling out venues across the country. She stood in the center of the stage, looked around, and said, “I cannot F^&%& believe this.” with such a hilarious sense of wonder.  I’m definitely a fangirl now.

So I leave you with this video…it’s a stripped down version of “Fairytale”.  I like it better than the album version, myself, much less production. And if you have little girls, this is definitely a different take on the whole Princess thing. Check it out, let me know if you get addicted to it.

Hey–loved the Sara B video–she does have great pipes–thanks for passing along! I think Olivia will like her music too. Will need to get her CD for the car! (yep, that’s where I listen to music 99% of the time–while hauling the kids around)
